Pre-2020, working virtually was not a culture built into most organizations. Now, because of the new way of working, today more so than ever, working within teams is critical to business success.

To make working in teams a smoother experience, what if, before meeting someone for an important meeting, the start of an important project, or joining a new team, you could quickly peruse a person’s personal user manual? It would be like looking inside a crystal ball!

Except this crystal ball is actually a brief manual that would include understanding how to support each other’s ideal conditions for getting their best work done.

The question now becomes, how can we best set ourselves, our teams (both remote teams and in-office), and our organization up for success?

Ask yourself:

  1. Are you or your managers seeking greater team connections?
  2. Are you trying to figure out how to work together more effectively while not burning out?
  3. Are you feeling out of sync with your team, your manager, or others in your organization?
  4. Are you looking for tools and techniques to increase clarity and build connections?

If you answered yes to any of the above, join us for this next Learn Something New Wednesday, where we will discuss and build working samples of two tools that can help you and your managers build clarity in your remote and hybrid teams (although, these are great for ANY type of team).

These are tools you can use with your working or project team, then experiment with, and ultimately help embed within your organization.

What are these tools you might ask?

They are Personal User Manuals* and Team Working Agreements.

Let’s start with Personal User Manuals.

A Personal User Manual helps YOU gain clarity on how you like to work and helps others understand too! Using this tool, you can share:

  • How you like to communicate
  • Your core working hours
  • Your personal/professional core values
  • Things that get in the way of working effectively (pet peeves)
  • and more!

Then, we will explore team agreements.

Agreements that teams create together to build clarity on everything from meetings, connection opportunities, communication methods and more! They can be used with both working and project teams.

These tools help you and your team members gain clarity about how to best work together which can lead to greater connection and more effective collaboration.

Chris will walk through each tool, and share examples (including her own Personal User Manual!) and you’ll even get to start building your own Personal User Manuals during the session. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the tools, their benefits, how to use them in your team and organization, and a draft of your own Personal User Manual.

Chris’s mission is to be the catalyst that others need to start connecting and communicating in effective and meaningful ways. As the Connection Catalyst” Chris is your trusted guide to effective virtual and hybrid team building. Chris’s superpower is building meaningful connections in a digital world.

*A personal user manual is like a user manual for equipment. It contains things like your specs (likes/dislikes), how you operate (working style, communication preferences) and troubleshooting (how to share feedback). There is no one right way to create a personal user manual. The key is to create one and share it with your manager and your team and have them share theirs with yours. It’s a living document that should be revisited and updated yearly or as needed.
